Gum Disease
The main cause of periodontal disease is bacteria in the form of either a sticky, colourless plaque (the layer the toothbrush can remove) that constantly forms on your teeth, or hard dark coloured deposits. However, many factors can cause periodontal disease, or influence its progression.
Gum Grafting

Our periodontist is very experienced in gum grafting procedures, and our practice has been providing them with excellent results for over twenty years. Gum grafts are procedures that aim at either replacing the missing gum tissues after gum recession (root coverage), or thickening the present gum tissues, or both.

Dental implants are a replacement option for missing natural teeth. They can be used to replace one, multiple, or all the teeth. The best thing about dental implants is that they are fixed to the bone, and hence in most cases, does not need to be removed or re-inserted (unlike dentures which require removal regularly).

‘The Periodontists’ was originally established as ‘Applecross Periodontics’ in 1999, with the vision of providing specialist periodontal and dental implant services in a relaxed, patient-friendly environment.
Dr Samy Francis rebranded ‘Applecross Periodontics’ to ‘The Periodontists’ committing to an exciting and successful future ahead. With this change, he is committed to upholding the clinic’s reputation for providing exceptional periodontal care, ensuring that both loyal referrers and patients continue to receive the high-quality services that they have come to expect.
Operating Hours and Services
Our practice is open Monday to Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Appointments are required. While most of our patients are referred by other dental professionals for periodontal care, a referral is not necessary. Anyone concerned about the health or appearance of their gums is welcome to contact us directly to make an appointment.
We also offer dental implant placement – a reliable treatment option for replacing missing teeth.
For anxious patients’, patient comfort is paramount. We work with experienced anaesthetists who provide additional anaesthetic services both within our practice and at Southbank Day Surgery in South Perth. Our facilities are fully equipped to accommodate patients in wheelchairs, ensuring a comfortable and accessible experience for all.
