Patient Information

Most patients require an OPG x-ray that is no older than two years old.  Some patients may require a recent OPG x-ray if they have considerable deterioration over two years.  If the referrer hasn’t arranged this, then we will send an OPG x-ray referral to you so you can have this done ready for your new patient or periodontal maintenance appointment.

Patients requiring crown lengthening and gum grafting for children do not require an OPG x-ray, a small x-ray taken in the dental chair will suffice.

All patients are seen by the periodontist for their initial periodontal consult, analysis/charting and treatment planning.

If the patient is comfortable and happy to go ahead with the proposed periodontal treatment plan, we will then finalise consents and schedule future appointments.

Depending on the patient’s requirements, they will be transferred to our periodontal maintenance department with our highly trained dental hygienists.

Patients receiving routine periodontal maintenance will have a new periodontal analysis every two years, or sooner if need be.  We will endeavour to report to your referrer to ensure we keep them fully informed about your periodontal and oral health.

We always recommend our patients return to their general dentist for check-ups and for any general dental treatment. In some cases, we ask that you visit other dental specialists.

We provide periodontal treatment under general anaesthetic at ‘Southbank Day Surgery’, intravenous sedation onsite at ‘The Periodontists’, and there are other anti-anxiety therapies are on hand.
