Patient Information

Most patients require an OPG x-ray that is no older than two years. Some patients may need a more recent OPG x-ray if there has been significant deterioration over the past two years. If the referrer has not arranged this, we will send an OPG x-ray referral to you so that it can be completed prior to the new patient or periodontal maintenance appointment.

Patients requiring crown lengthening and gum grafting for children do not require an OPG x-ray; a small x-ray taken in the dental chair will suffice.

All patients are seen by the periodontist for their initial periodontal consultation, analysis/charting, and treatment planning.

If the patient is comfortable and agrees to proceed with the proposed periodontal treatment plan, we will finalise consents and schedule future appointments.

Depending on the patient’s needs, they will be transferred to our periodontal maintenance department, where they will be cared for by our highly trained dental hygienists.

Patients receiving routine periodontal maintenance will have a new periodontal analysis every two years, or sooner if necessary. We will make every effort to report to your referrer to ensure they are fully informed about your periodontal and oral health.

We always recommend that our patients return to their general dentist for check-ups and any general dental treatment. In some cases, we may refer them to other dental specialists.

We provide periodontal treatment under general anaesthetic at ‘Southbank Day Surgery’, intravenous sedation onsite at ‘The Periodontists’, and other anti-anxiety therapies are available as well.
